ISLE OF WIGHT
The Isle of Wight County School Board is accepting letters of interest for appointment to the Carrsville District seat, which former Vice-Chairman Robert Eley vacated effective Friday.

According to Lynn Briggs, Isle of Wight County Schools’ director of gifted services, community and media relations, all submissions should be mailed to Tracey Reutt, the school board clerk, at 820 W. Main St., Smithfield, by Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017.

Following receipt of all letters, the board will appoint a new representative to serve the rest of Eley’s term, which will expire Dec. 31, 2017. The appointee, and anyone else may run in the November 2017 election to stay on or join the board in January 2018.

Eley tendered his letter of resignation to Board Chair Julia Perkins at the conclusion of last week’s board meeting, citing increased demands from his job and insufficient time to spend with his family as his reasons for resigning. He has served on the board since 2010.
