Harold Powell

FRANKLIN — James Harold Powell, 73, passed away on Nov. 28, 2016, in Southampton Memorial Hospital after several years of declining health.

Harold was a son of the late Thomas and Doris Powell, and was predeceased by a grandson, Travis Dwayne Powell, and a brother, Edward Thomas Powell.

He was a graduate of Randolph Henry High School after 12 years of perfect attendance.

He was a retired grade foreman for Glover Construction Company of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina, and was a former manager of the Franklin Garment Company.

Harold enjoyed flying and playing golf.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Betty Huss “Mutt” Powell; two sons, Ritchie B. Powell of Windsor and Steven D. Powell of Franklin; two grandsons, Kendall B. Powell and Derek J. Powell; three great-grandchildren, Brantley D. Powell, Gabriel J. Powell and Mia Grace Powell; two sisters, Louise Beale of Courtland and Elaine Lawery of Keysville; and two daughters-in-law, Sarah F. Powell and Wanda White.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Phipps officiating. The burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
