Truddie Colonia Garris Barnes

BOYKINS — Mrs. Truddie C. Barnes, 72, departed this earthly life on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, in the comfort of her home.

Truddie was born on Oct. 9, 1944, in Southampton County, to the late Ike Worrell and Agnes Garris.

She was a devoted member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk, treasurer and usher.

Survivors include three children, James (Ruth) Barnes of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Patricia Barnes-Goodwyn of Suffolk, Virginia; and Linda Barnes of College Park, Georgia; five grandchildren, Dimitri (Amanda) Barnes, Simone Goodwyn, Felice Goodwyn, Sabrina (DeVonte’) Greene and Breana Barnes; five great-grandchildren, Amaya, Avery, Delilah, Kendall and Titan; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Faison’s Funeral Service Inc., 301 Park St., Seaboard, North Carolina, has been entrusted with the arrangements, where Mrs. Barnes will lie in repose from 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

The homegoing service was at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20, in New Bethel Baptist Church, Boykins, Virginia, with Pastor Larry Cooper, officiating. She was laid to rest in the Oak Grove A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Como, North Carolina.
