FRANKLIN — Mother Sallie Mae Turner of Elmwood Drive departed this life to claim her eternal rest and peace on Nov. 16, 2016.

She was born to Butler and Mable Joe Scott on Oct. 1, 1928, in Southampton County.

For more than 12 years, Mother Turner was employed with Franklin Seafood.

She was a member of New Mount Carmel United Holy Church in Sedley. She was a dedicated servant of God and worked diligently in her church. She was a trustee, church treasurer, president of the Usher Board and custodian. Mother Turner was also the president of Tidewater District Nurses Union.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Emmanueal Scott; three sisters; and four brothers.

Mother Turner is survived by her husband, George Turner; four daughters, Constance Scott, Sandra Gardner (Robert), Faye Gatling (Levon) and Sarita Reed (William); one son, Ronnie Scott Sr. (Sherry); one brother, Willie Earl Scott (Freda); 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

On Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., the family will receive friends at Deliverance Tabernacle Church, 4202 Bainbridge Blvd., Chesapeake, Virginia.

The homegoing service was at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 22, in New Mount Carmel United Holy Church, 30438 Maple Ave., Sedley, Virginia, with the pastor, Dr. C.E. Banks, delivering the message of comfort. The committal and benediction were in Southview Cemetery.
