ISLE OF WIGHT
Virginia Department of Transportation crews completed construction of a new state route 680 bridge over Stallings Creek in Isle of Wight County on Monday morning, finishing approximately six months ahead of schedule.

Crews demolished, removed and replaced the bridge, which was elevated and designed to be 50 feet long and 26 feet wide, and rebuilt the approach roadway to the bridge. There is no longer a weight limit for the new bridge.

In March 2016, VDOT awarded Abernathy Construction Inc. the $1.7 million contract for the Stallings Creek bridge replacement and an additional bridge replacement over Passenger Swamp on state route 621. The Stallings Creek project was completed on budget and work on the route 621 project is still underway.
