On Sat., Nov. 19, the Lambda Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority of Franklin, VA will hold its first “Acts of Green” Day. On this day two different activities will be held. From 10 a.m. to noon, women’s suits will be accepted for donation to the Dress for Success organization. This entity provides professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. All donated suits must be dry cleaned and in good condition. Suits will be accepted at the Eternal Life Church, located at 102 W. Barrett St., Franklin.

Another activity being conducted is the Chapter’s first “acts of green” selfie day. Those interested in participating are asked to take a selfie while conducting an “Act of Green.” The photos can be emailed to: felicia.blow@charter.net or posted onto your own social media platforms. Acts of green ideas include, but are not limited to:

• Plant and maintain a vegetable or herb garden

• Plant a tree

• Set and leave your thermostat to save on energy costs associated with running your air conditioning. (Recommended is 78 when you’re at home and 85 when you are away.)

• Go for a walk

• Clean up around your park and neighborhood

• Donate your unused clothes and household items

• Carpool or take public transportation for errand

• Change incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs
