New Rt. 659 bridge over Flat Swamp Creek complete

Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation completed a project to demolish and replace the Route 659 bridge over Flat Swamp Creek in Southampton County on Tuesday, widening the new concrete-slab bridge to 50 feet long and 27 feet wide.

Crews also replaced the guardrail and rebuilt the approach roadway to tie into the newly constructed bridge.

VDOT awarded the $1.3 million construction contract to Infrastructure and Industrial Contractors Southeast Inc. in December 2015 The project began March 7 of this year and was completed on time.
