COURTLAND
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but will that expression hold up during the forthcoming Womanless Pageant?
The Franklin and Southampton County Fair board is sponsoring this second annual event, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Fairgrounds. Featured will be 11 beauties, er, men, who will courageously put on gowns, wigs and, yes, even heels. Brave indeed.
Janet Joyner, who regularly organizes the pageants for little girls and young ladies, said the idea of creating such an event for men just seemed a natural progression.
The profits will be used by the board for future county fairs.
Who, you might ask, will be participating? T.J. Babb, Cecil Edwards, Matt Sickleton, Will Melbye, William “Slim” Harrison, James Busch, Sweet Pope, Brandon Ivey, Kevin Lackey, Jason McHenry and Glenn Joyner.
Lucky them.
Katie Sutton-Lackey will serve as the mistress of ceremonies.
The contestants will model personality wear and an evening gown, and will also be required to answer questions inside the building next to the outside main stage.
The winner will be crowned Mr. Franklin-Southampton, and receive a sash, crown and flowers.
The money will be used by the board for future county fairs. only $10 apiece and are available from any board member, Farmer’s Bank in Courtland or Janet’s Touch of Style.
Refreshments will be sold. Door prizes and a 50/50 drawing will be included.
