FRANKLIN — Berta Johnson Smith, 88, passed away on Oct. 15, 2016, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born in Isle of Wight County, a daughter of the late Claude Royal Johnson and Carrie Maude Bland Johnson. She was predeceased by her husband, Rubert Dean Smith; a daughter, Ester Smith Babb; a sister, Nellie Johnson; and a brother, James Henry Johnson.
Berta was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Left to cherish her memory are one son, Ronnie Smith (Trudy), a sister, Edna Story; one brother, Robert Earl Johnson; four grandchildren, Michael Smith, Elliot Smith, Tracy Mattox and T.J. Babb; and dear friends, Robin, Kenny, Emma and Marlin McClelland, Janice Madron and Joyce White.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, in Wright Funeral Home by Chaplain Tim Cormany officiating. The burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 309 Homestead Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
