Due the excessive rain and poor field conditions at Armory Drive Recreational Park on Friday, the Franklin High School Broncos football game against the Park View High School Dragons was postponed until Monday. For this game the Park View Dragons — a Division 3 school —brought their A game against the Division 1 Broncos and cruised to an easy 44-14 win over the home team.

The Broncos in the first quarter of play hung tight with the Dragons and opened the scoring on a 44-yard pass from Fredquon Lassiter to Drelyn Ford. Later in the quarter, after a Bronco fumble, the Dragons’ Trevell Ratliff recovered the ball and raced over 70 yards and scored. The Dragons were successful on the 2-point conversion and went ahead 8-6.

The Broncos on their next possession went back to the air and Lassiter connected to Natron Lee for a 41-yard touchdown. On the 2-point conversion, Lassiter carried the ball across the goal line to put the home team ahead 14-6.

Hugie Chavis scored the last points of the first quarter for the Dragons on a 7-yard touchdown run and also added the 2-point conversion to put the Dragons ahead 16-14. Chavis scored the only points in the second quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run and the two-point conversion. The Dragons closed the first half with a 22-14 led over the Broncos.

In the second half it was all Dragons as they added 14 points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth quarter. The Dragons led in rushing with 293 yards with German Neville leading with 155 yards. In passing the Dragons had 22 yards.

The Broncos were led in rushing by Da-shaun Butts with 32 yards and the team had a total of 122 rushing yards. In passing, the Broncos had 86 yards in the air.

The Broncos were lead in tackles by Dashaun Butts and Dariun Everett with five tackles apiece.

Overall, the Broncos hung in the game considering the power of the Dragons with their strong running game. The passing game generated the Broncos’ only touchdowns in the first quarter of play. Quarterback Lassiter attempted seven and completed three passes for a total of 86 yards.

Bronco head coach Darren Parker stated in comments after the game, “We have to go back to the drawing board regroup and get ready for Friday. This one is over with — win, lose or draw they won, we lost — and the Broncos will see everyone on Friday. We are going to put work in on Friday, and as always, God is great.”
