Rwandan HUGS Niyo artists to perform locally

COURTLAND
A performance by Niyo artists, dancers and drummers from the Niyo Cultural Centre are scheduled to perform at Courtland Baptist Church on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. as a benefit to Rwandan HUGS Inc., an organization dedicated to helping Rwandan children afford schooling and related educational expenses.
The performance will feature Pacificue Niyonsenga, a 1994 genocide survivor and former street boy, who will show his art and entertain.
Dinner will be provided and baskets, jewelry and other item will be for sale.
Nancy Strachan, president of Rwandan HUGS Inc., said that performances are also scheduled at Meherrin and Capron elementary schools.

Rwandan HUGS also offers the opportunity to sponsor a student in Mbyo, a peace and reconciliation village started by Prison Fellowship Rwanda. Sponsors are asked to donate $15 monthly ($180 annually) to help pay for school uniforms, shoes, books, school supplies and medical cards.
