FRANKLIN
Traffic was rerouted through downtown Franklin following the closing of U.S. Route 58 East due to flooding on Thursday. For several hours in the morning, lines of cars and trucks were backed up southbound on North College Street and along Armory Drive; the Exxon service station also had flooding on and around that property.

Capt. Timothy Whitt of the City of Franklin Police Department had to call for extra manpower to assist.

“We’re asking state police and any off-duty officers to come in and assist with traffic control,” he said.

Both north and southbound lanes on Delaware Road (VA Route 687) were also flooded and closed. They remain so as of press time, according to information posted at www.511virginia.org.

Other closures include the aforementioned 58E/W from Camp Parkway to the interchange; Route 743S at Burnt Reed Road; Route 674N Rochelle Swamp Road; Business US 258E at Carrsville Highway; Route 643S at Bethel Road.
