FRANKLIN — Rufus Harry Mewborn Jr., 82, passed away on Sept. 21, 2016, at The Village at Woods Edge with his family at his bedside.

Harry was born in Leesburg, Virginia, a son of the late Rufus Harry Mewborn Sr. and Mae Gill Mewborn, and was also predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Howell Mewborn; a brother, Col. Wesley Warren Mewborn; and a sister, Mary Ellen Shrader.
Harry was a former employee of the FBI and a veteran of the Army.
He was a graduate of Campbell College and the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy.
He was the former owner of Tart Pharmacy and a longtime pharmacist at other drug stores in the area. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and a former member of the Franklin Jaycees, the Franklin Lions Club and Cypress Cove Country Club.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Karen Michaels and Anne Varner Scott, both of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; one son, Rufus H. “Kip” Mewborn III (Faith) of Hartland, Wisconsin; one sister, Yvonne M. Bugg of South Hill, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Rita Mewborn; Phyllis’s children, Lisa T. Wiese (Bill), Cindy T. Benton (David) and Michael E. Taylor (Danielle); 14 grandchildren, Kelsey, Anthony, Gracelyn and Joseph Mewborn, Sarah and Cameron Michaels, Noah Scott, Capt. Austin Wiese, Ashley Wiese, Chad, Emmy and Wade Benton and Justin and Kassidy Taylor; and his dear friend, Frances Marks.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Gibson and the Rev. Ben Duffey officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Poplar Spring Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and suggests thhat in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to your local Alzheimer’s Association or any favorite charity.
