Virginia F. Galtress

FRANKLIN — Virginia Fowler Galtress, 92, widow of George Howard Galtress Sr., passed away on Sept. 20, 2016, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
A native of Isle of Wight County, she was a daughter of the late Norfleet and Mattie Boyce Fowler. She was predeceased by three brothers, Floyd, Carroll and James Fowler. and a sister, Barbara Forbes.
Mrs. Galtress was a graduate of Carrsville High school and retired from the ASCS office in Isle of Wight County, and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion Post 73.
She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and the Faithful Servants Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two sons, George H. Galtress Jr. (Melinda) of Greenville, North Carolina; and William N. Galtress (Sue) of Martinsville; a sister, Jean F. Price of Richmond; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Bryan Vaughan of Franklin; two grandchildren, Christopher Lee Galtress and Amy Renee Agee (Shannon)’ and two great-grandchildren, Cody and Madison Agee; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Gibson officiating. The burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Franklin Baptist Church, 208 N. High St., Franklin, VA 23851.
The family would like to thank Mrs. Galtress’ caregivers, Elnora, Angelia and LaVerne and the rest of the caregivers for their wonderful care over the last 18 months.
