HARPER’S FERRY, W.Va. — Suzette Smith Craun, 68, best friend and wife of 46 years to Stevens M. Craun, departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, following a nine-month battle with cancer.

Born on May 22, 1948, in Suffolk, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Smith and Mamie Taylor Smith.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Suzette was a graduate of Shepherd College, where she earned her RN degree. She loved being in service to others, and had a very tender heart toward animals.
She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Matthews Taylor Craun and wife, Erika, of Harpers Ferry; two grandchildren, Logan and Graciella; one sister, Anne Copenhaver and husband, Cope, of Newport News, Virginia; two brothers, James A. Smith and wife, Sandy, of Newsoms, Virginia; and David M. Smith and wife, Robin, of Bolivia, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Marie Evatt of Laurens, South Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by one infant brother, Dennis Wayne Smith.
Services will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, in Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, with Pastor Donnie Jane Cardwell officiating.
