James P. Babb

COURTLAND — James Porter “Jimmy” Babb, 70, passed away on Sept. 17, 2016, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Southampton County, and was a son of the late Harwood F. Babb Sr. and Frances Porter Babb. He was also predeceased by his wife, Linda Lassiter Babb.
Jimmy was a retired farm manager for the Virginia Department of Corrections, and was a Navy veteran. He was a graduate of Southampton High School and had attended Hargrave Military Academy and Old Dominion University.
Jimmy was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church and the Manry Hunt Club.
Survivors include one son, Mark A. Babb of Zuni; one brother, Harwood F. “Woody” Babb Jr., and his wife, Mary, of Smithfield; his nephew, Christopher Babb, and great-nephew and great-niece, Aaron and Kala Babb, all of Virginia Beach; a sister-in-law, Kay C. Joyner, and her husband, Clint, of Smithfield, North Carolina; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, with William Hart Gillette officiating.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Courtland United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
