COURTLAND
The next Southampton County Historical Society program will take place on Sunday, Sept. 18, and begin at 3 p.m. in the Administration Building in Courtland. Richard Livesay of Sedley will present on screen many old photos of Franklin and Southampton.
Livesay lives in Sedley, married to Lori, and is retired, but worked at Union Camp.
He got interested in photos by taking pictures of old barns and houses that were falling down.
That led to digging up other photos of Western Tidewater. Livesay will show photos, which will include pictures taken by his aunt during the Franklin 1940 flood. She got in a rowboat and rowed around town taking pictures. There are also old photos of Sedley. His goal is to publish a book of old Franklin photos.
There is no admission fee.
