FRANKLIN
The Lowe’s Hero’s Project is partnering with the City of Franklin to restore the Barrett’s Landing Boating Marina. Between the two organizations, volunteers will re-do the pier along with updating the surrounding landscaping.

“This year, the local Franklin Lowe’s Store and its employees will be partnering with the City of Franklin, and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to restore the boating marina at Barrett’s Landing,” store manager Aaron Morgan said. “The Lowe’s Hero Project is a volunteer effort to better the communities in which our stores are located. Each year, 2,355 Lowe’s stores volunteer materials and personnel hours and set out into the community to give back.”

The local project includes completely re-decking both piers with a synthetic material, painting the retainer railings on the boardwalk area and landscape services such as providing new decorative plants for the surrounding flower beds.

“It is with great pride and enthusiasm, that Lowe’s of Franklin and our employees perform these projects,” Morgan added. “On behalf of the 100 plus local Lowe’s employees that call the City of Franklin, Southampton County and surrounding areas home, we would like to extend a sincere thank you for making us a key fixture within your community and a trusted friend.”

The public works department within the city will also be providing workers and equipment to make this project happen.

This will begin on Monday, Aug. 8, and will completed by Thursday, Aug. 11.

During this time, the ramp will be closed. The City of Franklin apologizes for any inconvenience the closure may cause, however, it believes the restoration of the boat ramp will not only make it better, but also safer.
