Mustang Football gears up for 2016 season

The Franklin Mustang Youth Football Team is now preparing for its upcoming fall campaign. The organization will offer a fundamental football skills camp, along with a cheerleading camp next month. The Football and Cheering camps will be held on Aug. 22-24 at the Hayden High School Football Field. Camp begins at 5 p.m. and concludes at 7 p.m.
The football skills camp is open to all kids in the area ages 6 thru 13. This is a non-contact camp, but football drills will be taught, so it is a lot of physical activity involved, according to Rob Carter the director of Mustang Football, Rob Carter.
Participants are ask to wear T-shirts, shorts and rubber-spiked shoes or sneakers.
The Mustang Football team coaching staff will instruct and lead the skills being taught.
The Mustang Football Cheering Camp is open to all young ladies ages 6 thru 13 years of age. The Mustang Cheerleading staff will lead the girls in different cheers and formations. Carter also hopes to have some past local all-stars, high school coaches and retired coaches come out and joined the kids for some fun and encouragement.
Registration for Mustang Football and Cheerleader Camp is either of these three Saturdays in August, 6, 13 or 20. Registration will take place in front of Ace Hardware from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. Registration fee is $10 for camp and this includes a T-shirt.
“Last year we had 75 participants for our camps; we hope to top that mark this year,” said Carter.
These three Saturdays are also pre-registration dates for the upcoming Mustang Football Team 2016 football regular season. Boys 6 thru 13 years of age are eligible to play Flag or Tackle football. Flag football is offered for ages 6 thru 8; junior tackle ages 9 thru 11; and senior tackle 12 thru 13′ a child can not turn 14 before the first regular season game to be eligible, and the first regular season game is on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The registration fee for the regular season is $25. Mustang Cheerleader regular season registration will take place after a squad has been formed.
Mustang Football is a member of the Franklin Youth Football and Cheer League.
