WAVERLY
Virginia State Police reported a motor vehicle crash involving a train on Route 40 in the town of Waverly on Thursday afternoon.

According to a release from Sgt. Michelle Anaya, a tractor trailer hauling a load of rocks was traveling westbound when the driver attempted to cross the railroad tracks when the railroad signal arms came down and ensnared the trailer portion of the truck. A train then struck the trailer, spilling the load of rocks across Route 40.

There is one reported injury, and the subject was flown out.

Two vehicles were struck by debris, and railroad equipment was damaged.

Route 40 is currently shut down because of the debris.

Another tractor trailer went into the ditch on the detour road, Mayfield Road, and therefore one lane on Route 460 East was shut down.
