WILLIAMSBURG — Mary Burwell Moyler Smith, 81, passed away on July 8, 2016.

Born in Franklin, Virginia, she was the daughter of James Edward Moyler and Amelia Walker Moyler. Mary B. graduated as valedictorian of both Franklin High School and Hollins College. After graduation, Mary B. worked for NASA as a mathematician, where she met the love of her life, Bob. Later, she and Bob founded Apple of Williamsburg. Not requiring much sleep, they came out of their second retirement to deliver papers for The Virginia Gazette and The Daily Press.

Having lived in Williamsburg for over 50 years, Mary B. volunteered with many organizations. She was president of the Williamsburg Community Hospital Auxiliary. She used her passion for the piano to entertain many in the community, particularly the wonderful retirement communities.

Mary B. was predeceased by her husband, Robert P. Smith; and her two dachshunds, Caesar and Juju. Survivors include her brother, James E. Moyler Jr.; nephew, Jim Moyler and his wife, Charlotte, and their son, Jake; niece, Rees Johnston and her husband, Tommy, and their daughter, Atlee, and son, Welden, and his wife, Michelle; niece, Amy McCarthy, and her husband, John, and their children. A heartfelt thank you to the compassionate and loving staff at Patriots Colony who so tenderly took care of Mary B.

The memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m., on Tuesday, July 12, in Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg with Dr. Bill Jones officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
