According to Capt. Tim Whitt of the Franklin Poice Department, Shameyer Ashburn of Franklin pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Thursday, two years after the death of her 6-year-old son at the Days Inn Motel on Armory Drive.

On Feb. 12, 2014, police officers responded to a 911 call from the Days Inn and found the child unresponsive.

He was rushed to Southampton Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation lead to Ashburn being named as a person of interest, and ultimately charged.
