Jimmy and Shirley Coggsdale

FRANKLIN — The graveside burial of ashes will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, in Southampton Memorial Park for James Abbitt Coggsdale Jr. and Shirley Whitley Coggsdale. The Rev. James H. Hyatt Jr. will officiate the service.

Jimmy passed away on June 7, 2016, in a Tampa, Florida, nursing home, and Shirley passed away on Dec. 18, 2014, at her home in New Port Richey, Florida.

Jimmy was a son of the late James A. Coggsdale Sr. and Gladys Gardner Coggsdale, and his stepfather Mack Kelly Jones.

Shirley was a daughter of the late Julian and Leatha Edwards Whitley.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie Renn (Frank) of Courtland; two sons, James A. “Bodie” Coggsdale III and Kenneth Coggsdale, both of Franklin; five grandchildren, Abbitt Hoffman (Amanda), Candy Nichols (Joe), Julie Coggsdale, Brittany Coggsdale and Katie C. Miller; and five great-grandchildren.

Jimmy was predeceased by a sister, Betty Runyon.

Shirley is also survived by four sisters, Nettie Boyce, Patsy Butler, Linda Johnson and Jean Barrett; and two brothers, Ronnie and David Whitley.

Jimmy and Shirley were married in April of 1959.

Jimmy was an Air Force Veteran, and was a self-employed contractor.

Shirley worked all of her life, waitressing and selling peanuts for Hugh Taylor.

Wright Funeral Home in Franklin has charge of arrangements.
