CAPRON — Kenneth Ray Smith, 69, passed away on June 25, 2016, at home surrounded by his family.

Kenny was born in Edenton, North Carolina, and was a son of the late Clyde James Smith and Doris Casper Smith. He was also predeceased by a son, Joshua Moss Smith, and a brother, the Rev. Johnny Smith.

Kenny was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Boykins, and was retired from the Sawmill Department of International Paper. He was a Navy veteran, and enjoyed working on race cars and babysitting his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane Grizzard Smith; three daughters, Candace “Candi” Smith (Stevie Lankford) of Franklin; Ruthie Mason “Macy” Drake (Raymond) of Courtland; and Julie Diane Smith (Miranda Brown) of Capron; two sons, Troy Ray Smith (Cindy) of Capron and Timothy Scott Smith (Yaosca) of Courtland; two brothers, Carroll Smith and Lewis Smith; both of Petersburg; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his pet “Sugar.”

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, in Capron Baptist Church with the Rev. James Young and the Rev. Charles Alvis officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Capron Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, from 7 to 8:30 pm. on Monday.
