FRANKLIN
The Blackwater River Fest committee in partnership with The Tidewater News will hold a logo design contest for the upcoming, new spring festival. The river fest will take place in Spring 2017 at Barrett’s Landing on Saturday, April 29, and the Franklin Airport on Sunday, April 30.

This festival is a collaborative effort of the City of Franklin and Southampton and Isle of Wight counties. The goal is to highlight what all three localities have to offer.

Some of the things planned for the festival include a 5k run/walk, bike tour, kayaks, corhnole, music, wall climb, rubber duck race, cardboard boat race, local artist section, tug of war, vendors, kite design and flying, plane demonstrations, bounce house and much more.

The logo should represent the festival and three localities involved. Anyone interested in participating in the contest should submit their logo to The Tidewater News by Monday, July 25.

The logo can be delivered in person or submitted through email, editor@tidewaternews.com. The winner will receive a $200 prize and will be notified by Friday, July 29.

Aside from the contest, the river fest committee still needs help making the event happen.

“We have volunteers assisting already, but are still looking for community groups from the two counties and City of Franklin,” committee member Scott Seddon said. “This could include hunt and fishing clubs, church groups,or any civic group of people that would like to help.

“We want to showcase what the area has to offer and have a good event that is fun for the entire family,” he added.

Anyone interested in helping with the festival, or anyone who has questions about the contest, can contact Seddon at 348-1341.
