Ruby Lee Smith-Worrell

NEWSOMS — Late Wednesday evening on June 15, 2016, God sent his angels to the bedside of Ruby Lee Smith-Worrell as she took her journey to her heavenly home.
Ruby was born on Feb. 14, 1940, to the late Sam and Ida Smith.
She was educated in the Southampton County Public Schools. She attended Paul D. Camp Community College.
At an early age, she was baptized and became a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. On Dec. 22, 1961, she was united in holy matrimony to Vanless D. Worrell. During this union, Ruby and Vanless were able to travel to several countries.
Ruby loved servicing her community. She was the founder and president and vice president of Coffer Coasters Citizen Group. She was the organizer of the water and sewage Extension Project in Newsoms, Virginia.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Vanless D. Worrell; one son, Kristopher Worrell; one daughter, Geta Amos; one brother-in-law: Silas Worrell; one son-in-law, Tiamo Amos; one daughter-in-law, Eric Worrell; two brothers, Robert Smith and Alexander Smith; four sisters, Dorothy Flythe; Olivia S. Jones Smith, Annie Smith and Ida Spruell; two brothers-in-law, Andrew Flythe and Sidney Smith; one god-sister, Deborah Sherls of Tacoma, Washington; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The homegoing service will be on Tuesday, June 21, at 1 p.m. in Bright Lilly Disciples Church of Christ, 27167 Bishop Poquoson Road, Newsoms, where Elder Mary W. Stephens is the pastor. Burial will be in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
Viewing will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church, with a reception to follow after the funeral.
