WINDSOR
The inaugural Run Through the Heart 5K and Youth Fun in Windsor last Saturday essentially went off without a proverbial hitch or, in this case, a charley horse.

“We had 88 participants between the 5K and the fun run,” said co-organizer Mischelle Goodman, “and raised over $4,000 for the Woman’s Club of Windsor, which they intend to use to support the new Town Center. The other responsible organizer was Kim Garrett, chairwoman of the Ways and Means Committee of the club, a member of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs.

While the runners and walkers were on their course, Goodman — who is the owner of Anytime Fitness in town — had a few minutes to speak more about the new fundraiser.

“We’re hoping to do this every year. Anytime Fitness has been wanting to do a 5K for the community,” she said, adding that the partnership with the Woman’s Club has been a great pairing.

“They brought the volunteers and connections that made it all possible,” Goodman said. Those connections featured businesses that supported the event.

These include not only Anytime Fitness, but also Citizens National Bank, DeWitt’s Automotive Center, Duke Automotive, Farmers Bank, Suffolk Insurance, Virginia Community Bank and Wharf Hill Brewing Co.

The following are the overall results:

• Lee Duncan, first place at 19:23.126;

• Todd Helmick of Yorktown, second place at 19:37.790;

• Mike Horn, third place at 21:12.823;

• Karl Harrison of Windsor, 69th place at 51:42.506;

• Joann Joyner of Windsor, 72nd place at 54:16.643;

• Ashley Quesinberry of Zuni, 73rd place at 58.25.916;

• Juliet Baldwin, 76th place at 1:02:06.930;

• Marsha Cale of Suffolk, 77th place at 1:02:07.083.
