ISLE OF WIGHT
In keeping with this year’s national theme of the American Cancer Society — “Paint your world purple” — the Relay For Life of Isle of Wight and Surry will take place tonight at the Isle of Wight Academy.

The opening ceremony begins at 6 o’clock, followed soon after by the traditional cancer survivors and caregivers’ lap around the athletic field.

Silence is requested during the Luminaria ceremony at 9:30 p.m. People light candles inside bags featuring the names of loved ones who have either succumbed to cancer, or are still battling the disease.

Activities will be take place throughout the night, with food available for purchase.

The closing ceremony is scheduled at 7:30 a.m.
