CARRSVILLE
Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation will begin demolition of the bridge over the CSX Railroad on Route 58 Business (Carrsville Highway) today, June 8.

“Motorists should expect intermittent stoppages with flagger operations that last up to 15 minutes in [at the intersection of Old Myrtle Road] until Friday, June 17,” VDOT Senior Public Affairs Specialist Tiffany Whitfield said.

The $6.7 million project, awarded to Bryant Contracting Inc., has been underway since March and is expected to be completed by November 2017. It will replace the existing structurally deficient bridge that was built in 1936, will widen the roadway and will provided the required 23-foot minimum clearance over the railroad tracks.

“All construction work is dependent upon weather conditions,” Whitfield added.
