Walters Highway is closed at this time following a single vehicle accident in the 26700 block of the road, according to Lt. Tommy Potter, spokesman for the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office.

The Isle of Wight Emergency Communications Center received a call at 2:21 p.m. On arrival, deputies discovered that a truck carrying various cylinders used in welding operations and containing commercial gases had crashed and overturned. The gas cylinders were knocked loose and blocked the highway.

Potter added that the driver of the truck has been transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the accident.
