SUFFOLK — The Rev. William E. Hawkins, 91, passed away on June 4, 2016, in East Pavilion.

He was a son of the late Robert Lee Hawkins and Alice Mable Riddle Hawkins, and was also predeceased by his wife, Esther O’Dell Hawkins; a son, Glen R. Hawkins; and a sister, Ruth Cowling.

The Rev. Hawkins was a WWII Navy veteran, one of the founding pastors of Bethel Assembly of God in Suffolk, Virginia, and a former employee of Union Camp Corporation.

Left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Susan Joan Tinch of New York; a daughter-in-law, Judy Hawkins of Suffolk; a sister, Alice Mable Clarke of Waverly; a brother, Dr. Robert Thornton Hawkins of Richmond; four grandchildren, Bryan Tinch, Coleman Ashley Hawkins and his wife, Molly, and Joshua Lee Hawkins and Marshall Robert Hawkins; and three great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Marian and Alayna Hawkins.

Visitation will be from 6 to 6:45 p.m., and the funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. with the reception to follow on Wednesday, June 8, in Bethel Assembly of God with Pastor T.R. King officiating.
