Franklin relay team wins regional meet

The Franklin track team on Thursday won several medals at the Virginia High School League Region IA East meet at Sussex Central High School.

Juwan Walton placed third in the 100-meter dash, running a time of 11.45 seconds.
The 4×100 relay team of Walton, Jefferson, DeMarque White, and JaVonte Baker won first place with a time of 43.77. They’ll compete in the state outdoor track meet on Thursday, June 1, through Saturday, June 4.
Other athletes to compete were Jayla Cross, who placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 32 feet, 9 1/2 inches.
Josie Ranklin finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 4 3/4 inches and fifth in the high jump with a distance of 4 feet, 7 inches. Quayshawn Jefferson placed second in the 400-meter dash, running a personal best of 51.17 seconds.
