CAPRON — William “Bill” Henry Nurney Jr., 64, departed this life on May 22, 2016, at home surrounded by his devoted family and friends.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, William Henry Nurney and Helen Newsome Nurney, and his beloved sister, Kay N. Pope.

Bill is survived by his soulmate, Diane B. Fowler; his sons, William Henry Nurney III (Heather) and James Randolph “Randy” Nurney (Missy); his daughter, Joanne N. Bryant (Tony); five grandchildren, Marissa, Elizabeth and Jenna Nurney, Dale and Renee Bryant; his second family, Tracy and Rick Bachelor, Melissa Fowler and two grandchildren, Ruth Ann and Lori Bachelor; his devoted sister, Linda N. Vick; brother-in-law, James D. Pope Jr.; one niece, Carla V. Kinyo; two nephews, James D. Pope III and Joseph W. Pope; and one aunt, Erma N. Scott.

Bill attended Southampton High School and Hargrave Military Academy where he received the Citizenship Award. He was a founding member of the Coon Hunters Club, served as a board member for Shiloh Hunt Club and was a member of Margarettsville Hunt Club.

He owned and operated Nurney and Sons farming operation.

Bill was an avid sportsman and farmer; while pursuing his passions, he made many lifelong friends. He loved deer hunting, fox trials and being outdoors. He won many awards and trophies through coon hunting and fox trials. He was a lifelong farmer and took great pride in his farming operation with his two sons.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, with the Rev. Darwin Edwards officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin has charge of arrangements.
