COURTLAND
Local and regional hazmat units responded to the scene of an accident involving a tractor-trailer carrying sulfuric acid near Courtland on Friday morning.

“No one was hurt and a very minimal amount leaked out,” said Major Gene H. Drewery, spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident was reported at 7:45 a.m., and Wakefield Road between Indian Branch Lane and Urquhart Quarter Road remains closed as of 2 p.m.

Drewery said that an unsafe pass by another driver was the cause of the accident. The unidentified driver was issued a summons.
