Student starts fire in Southampton High School bathroom

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office detained a 17-year-old Southampton High School student on Tuesday afternoon after an investigation showed that he started a fire in the bathroom. The student has been charged with arson of an occupied public building and is being held at the Tidewater Detention Home in Chesapeake.

According to the Major Gene H. Drewery, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, the area around the bathroom was evacuated and nobody was injured.
