FRANKLIN
The Relay for Life of Franklin/Southampton County is kicking off its annual events. Although they have held successful fundraisers, they are still looking for survivors, volunteers and sponsors for the remaining items they have scheduled.

The group set of goal of raising $75,000 this year; right now they have raised about $20,609.74. They are hoping with the several remaining events and fundraising opportunities still on the calendar, they will be able to reach their goal.

Recently, they held a fundraiser at Don Pancho’s that brought money to two different groups. The fundraiser took place on Monday, March 7. Anyone who ate dinner that night was able to help out a team by simply telling the workers which team they were there to support.

At the end of the night, Don Pancho’s gave the Relay for Life of Franklin/Southampton County a portion of the proceeds, which ended up being $650. The two teams who had the most people come out and were given the donation were High Street United Methodist Church and JL Champs.

The next event and something new the team has planned will be Bark for Life of Franklin/Southampton. This will be just like the walk that will happen in June, except it will be for dogs.

Bark for Life will take place at The Village at Woods Edge, 1401 North High Street, Franklin, on Saturday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This walk will not only honor the lifelong contribution of canine caregivers, it will also raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society. Pre-registration is $20 per dog/owner, and the day-of-event registration $25. The registration price includes a dog bandana and a picture.

The annual survivors dinner will be on Thursday, June 2. This is bit different this year, as it falls on the same week as the annual walk. The dinner will be at the Paul D. Camp Community College Regional Workforce Development Center. Survivors need to register, regardless if they have participated or register in a previous year. Registration entitles participation and a t-shirt.

The annual Relay for Life Walk will be on Saturday, June 4, at Armory Field. The theme this year is “Paint the World Purple through the Decades.” Everyone is encouraged to dress in clothes from their favorite decade, while incorporating a lot of purple into their attire.

Relay for Life of Franklin/Southampton County is in need of survivors, volunteers and sponsors to help out with the upcoming events and to help them reach their goal. Anyone interested in donating money, being a sponsor, participating or registering for any of the above listed events or has questions is asked to contact Cindy Cotton at 617-9743 or c.cotton@charter.net.
