Social media has been buzzing in recent weeks regarding the potential rebirth of Southampton Motor Speedway in Capron. Many of our friends and neighbors have spent untold numbers of hours at the Speedway, either preparing or racing the cars that took to the track or by simply taking in the thrill of local short track racing action. To have the venue up and running again would be surely be a welcomed development by not just those who loved the track in its day, but by racing fans from all over the region who would get to experience it for the first time.

The facility is a mere shell of its former self now thanks to the ravages of time and vandalism, and will require much TLC to bring it back to its former glory. But those who are spearheading current efforts appear sincere in their mission to do just that. We wish them every success, and hope it’s not to long before the green flag once again drops.
