FRANKLIN
On Wednesday morning, Smart Beginnings hosted its annual community breakfast at the Paul D. Camp Community College Regional Workforce Development Center. The breakfast gave a chance for community members to hear about education in Western Tidewater and the changes school officials are making.

The panel for the breakfast consisted of school leaders from throughout the area: President of Paul D. Camp Community College Dr. Bill Aiken; Superintendent of Franklin City Public Schools Dr. Willie Bell; Director of Human Resources of Southampton County Rodney Brown; and Executive Director of Elementary Schools of Isle of Wight County Schools Susan Goetz.

All panelists said that although they are still focusing on preparing students for college, they are also working to change the curriculum to ensure that those students who are not planning on going to college are being taught the soft skills they need and are being prepared for the workforce.
