Gene Williams

SUFFOLK – William Eugene Williams, 85, passed away February 25, 2016. Gene was a native of Nansemond County and was a son of the late Henley Eugene Williams and Anna Mae Griffin Williams. Gene was a 1949 graduate of Chuckatuck High School and an Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany where he was a medic. He was a retired car salesman from Starr Motors after 42 year career in automotive sales. Gene was the former owner-manager of Louis B. Thompson Restaurant and Motor Lodge in Courtland. He was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Glenda Thompson Williams, two daughters, Sandra W. Smith (Paul) of Fayetteville, NC, Rachel W. Smith of Suffolk, two sons, Andrew B. Cambron (JoAnne) of Hendersonville, NC, Michael B. Williams (Charity) of Morganton, NC, one sister, Judith W. Maupin of Cary, NC, one brother, Willie G. Williams (Carolyn) of Suffolk, five grandchildren, Michael Atkins, Jr, Suzanne Smith, Victoria Cambron, Michaela Williams, Elijah Williams and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11AM Monday, February 29, 2016 at the Franklin Congregational Christian Church with the Rev James H. Hyatt, Jr. officiating. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 10AM at the Capron Cemetery. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
