Regular season comes to a close for Franklin men’s basketball league

The Franklin Department of Parks and Recreation’s 2016 men’s basketball season came to a close on Thursday night.

Playing in the Peggy Wilkins Gym at Franklin High School, the first game pitted the league’s best teams, the North Carolina Fire and Total Care. The Fire pulled out the victory, 83-71. Lamar Monger led all scorers with 36 points in the win, and Tremain Totten chipped in 16 points. Tyshaun Lowe scored 31 points in a losing effort.

The second game featured the Panthers and the Shooters, with the latter pulling out the win, 51-39. Swendell Stephens paced the Shooters with 14 points, while Ashley Lee Jr. pitched in 10 points for the Panthers.

The playoffs begin this Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. Game 1 will feature the No. 3 Rockets vs. sixth-ranked Panthers; Game 2 is No. 4 Total Care against the fifth-ranked Shooters; Game 3 will pit the No. 1 Fire against the lowest remaining seed of the aforementioned games; and Game 4 will pair the second-ranked Dream Team with the highest remaining seed.
