SUFFOLK — Julia Mae Joyner Carr, 87, left this world peacefully to be with her husband, Louis, on Feb. 8, 2016. Born on April 6, 1928, in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Shady Lee and Mae Lowe Joyner. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Louis C. Carr, who passed away on April 3, 2008; a sister, Hazel Darden; her brother, Buck Joyner; and a son-in-law, Don Johnson.
Mrs. Carr was a 1945 graduate of Franklin High School, a member of Holland Baptist Church and its Grand Age Group and WMU. She had been a member of the Holland Home Demonstration Club, Holland Woman’s Club and the Eager Beavers Seniors at Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, L. Carroll Carr Jr. (Susan) of Shawsville; Phyllis C. Johnson of Chesapeake; and Nancy C. Greene (Robert Jr.) of Suffolk; sister, Kitty Slaton of Franklin; grandchildren, Barnett Joyner Carr, Bent-Lee Holland Carr (Katey), Jessica Ann Hayes (Matt), Julie Lampkins (John), Shawn Greene (Stacy) and Daniel Greene (Ashley); great grandchildren, David Michael Greene, Payten Greene, Payson Greene, Lauren Lampkins and Cameron Hayes, sisters-in-law, Edna Joyner, Barbara Gray (Melvin), Carolyn Duke (Raye) and Helen Carr; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, and suggests memorials be made in Julia’s memory to Holland Baptist Church, P.O. Box 7086, Suffolk, VA 23437.
