FRANKLIN
Vice Mayor and Ward 1 representative Barry Cheatham and Ward 2 representative Benny Burgess have both announced their candidacy for re-election.

“I am going to run another term,” Cheatham said. “There are a lot of things we are in the middle of that I would like to see to its conclusion such as SPSA and shared services. I have been heavily involved in that since the beginning, and I would like to see it to the conclusion to benefit the city.”

Burgess also said that one of his reasons for running for re-election was to see projects get finished that will help benefit Franklin.

“One of the biggest reasons I am running again is because of shared services,” Burgess said. “We are examining water and sewer and I would like to see that through. It is a big, complex project.”

Both Cheatham and Burgess said they have other reasons for running again, as well.

“I enjoy serving,” Cheatham said. “I think we’ve done a good job with the budget and I want to continue doing a good job and keeping the taxes low.”

Burgess added, “Another reason is because of the election of a new mayor. We don’t know that he [Frank Rabil] is going to be elected, but if he is elected there could have been a change in three council positions. Hopefully that will not occur if I am fortunate enough to be reelected.”

Cheatham and Burgess both came onto council in 2008, and will each serve a third term if re-elected.
