Investigation leads to arrest on forgery charges

A Branchville man was arrested on Wednesday after a month-long investigation into the forgery of checks. Todd Newsome, 47, of Davis Lane, allegedly forged a signature on 23 different checks and cashed them from May through December 2015.
“The investigation began when the individual [whose checks they are] became aware that his name was being signed to checks,” Southampton County Sheriff’s Detective Camden Cobb said.
Charged with 46 felony counts of forgery and uttering, Newsome was was arrested without incident and released on a $10,000 secured bond.
He is scheduled to appear in Southampton County General District Court for arraignment today, Feb. 5, at 9 a.m.
