BRANCHVILLE — Malachi W. Barnes, 89, peacefully transitioned from earthly labor unto eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin, Virginia.

Malachi was born on June 26, 1926, in Southampton County, Virginia, to the late John Wesley Barnes and Vergie Lee Britt Barnes.

He was a self-employed carpenter.

He leaves not to mourn his passing, but to cherish many fond memories four children, Guy Barnes (Rochelle), Susie Edwards, Rosa Barnes and Yvette Hooper (Raun); four grandchildren, Eric Barnes (Tamara), Brian Ivey Sr. (Jennifer), Savonya Barnes and Akeisha Watson; nine great-grandchildren, Malcolm Blowe, Brian Ivey Jr., Damanti Barnes, Thomas Ivey, Angel Person, Samuel Watson, Diallo Barnes, Annaya Barnes and Hunter Ivey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Faison’s Funeral Home, 301 Park St., Seaboard, North Carolina, has been entrusted with the arrangements, where Mr. Barnes will lie in repose from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5.

The homegoing service honoring his life, love and legacy will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Branchville, with the Rev. Claudie Grant, delivering words of comfort. He will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
