Doris Wilson Parsons

NORFOLK — Doris Wilson Parsons, 94, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, in Washington, D.C.

Born in Princess Anne, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Murray Wilson and William Allen Wilson, and was the widow of L. Shields Parsons Jr.

Doris, in her younger years, was very active in many community and civic activities having served as president of the Elizabeth River Woman’s Club, active with her husband in Republican politics, and a lifelong member of Park Place United Methodist Church.

She loved square dancing, country western music and just dancing in general. Disney World was her paradise and she visited there as often as she could. She was also an avid auto racing enthusiast, never missing a chance to watch a race.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Elayne Powell and her husband, Bob; Ruth Anne Rusbuldt and her husband, Wayne; and Debbie Parsons and her fiance, Bill Elwang; five grandchildren, Donnie Upton, Paige and R.H. Powell, and Daniel and Matthew Flowers; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Ashley, Mackenzie, Jackson and Amelia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The memorial service was conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Foundry United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach.
