Jesse K. Hellyer Jr., CLU, who’s been an agent for New York Life for over 21 years, has been elected as one of 24 members in the insurance company’s 2016 Agents Advisory Council. The naming took place during a recent awards and recognition education conference.

The significance of the appointment is understandably important to Hellyer, who is an agent for the company, working out of Waverly.

“It means that I’ve arrived at the point in my business to be able to give back to the company that I represent. The AAC started in 1946, one of only companies that has a council like this to meet face to face with an executive committee to make changes for our clients as well as the agents.”

Hellyer continued, “It gives me an opportunity to serve my company after they’ve done so much for me over the years.

Not incidentally, the CLU after his name means Chartered Life Underwriter, which he added required passing 10 courses to earn that designation.

“What we focus on is how to make our company and product better for clients not just this month or this year, but for generations to come,” Hellyer said.

He added that the AAC’s theme this year is “Pay it forward. We’ll be making ourselves bigger, better and stronger.”

The agent also said he’s been assigned to a product subcommittee focusing on annuities and long-term care insurance.

Hellyer is an eight-year consecutive President’s Council Qualifier, has his CLU designation; president of NAIFA Petersburg-Tri-Cities; a member of the Franklin-Southampton area Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Crater Care Giver Coalition; and a Sunday school teacher at Wakefield United Methodist Church. He received a B.A. degree from Randolph-Macon College.

He resides in Waverly with his wife, Loretta. They have two sons, Quinton and Martin.
