Sanford “Sandy” Wanner has been named as the interim county administrator for Isle of Wight County. The Board of Supervisors met on Monday evening to interview candidates and discuss qualifications.

The decision was announced on Tuesday afternoon via an email from spokesman Don Robertson.

Wanner, who previously was interim county administrator for Gloucester County, will begin work effective Monday, Feb. 1.

He has over 36 years of public service, including working as an adjunct instructor with the College of William and Mary School of Government; county administrator and assistant county administrator of James City County; general manager of the James City County Service Authority; director of Finance for Williamsburg-James City County Schools; and director of Business Affairs for Fredericksburg City Public Schools.

He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Marine Corps.

His educational background includes a Master of Science Degree in Administration from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Trenton State Teacher’s College.
