PORTSMOUTH — Sara Frances Drake Forrest, 88, passed away peacefully on Jan. 8, 2016.

She was affectionately known as “Snookie” by her family and friends. A native of Southampton County, Virginia, she was the wife of the late Edward D. Forrest Jr.

Sara was a loving mother, grandmother, dedicated Navy wife and homemaker. Sara and Ed made their home in Chesapeake and raised their two children with lots of love and care. She was a longtime member of Jolliff United Methodist Church.

In her earlier years, she served as general secretary for the Women’s Christian Temperance Union of Southampton County; this was one of the many highlights of her life. With Christian love, she enjoyed writing and sending letters and cards to her many friends she had made throughout her life.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna F. Bradley; a son, Edward D. Forrest III and wife, Carol; two grandchildren, Allison and Gregory Forrest; a brother, Frank Drake and wife, Judy of Columbus, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and a special dog, Abbey Blue.

The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m., on Thursday, Jan. 14, in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, by the Rev. Waverly Smith and the Rev. Edward Rigg. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jolliff United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1900 Jolliff Road, Chesapeake, VA 23321.

The family would like to thank the medical team and staff at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, for their kindness and professional care, and also the staff of Mayfair House, Portsmouth, for their kindness, compassion and professional care as well as Medi Home Health & Hospice.
