Floyd B. Smith

HAMPTON — Floyd Beidler Smith, 88, of Hampton, Virginia, died peacefully in his home on Dec. 29, 2015. Born in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Feb. 9, 1927, he was a son of the late Kenneth Floyd Smith and Annie Elizabeth Howell Smith.
Floyd served his beloved country in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Floyd also enjoyed a long and successful career as a civil engineer working on countless projects throughout southeast and central Virginia. He is lovingly remembered as a “happy and healthy” man. Floyd spent his formative years in Southampton County and always considered the area his “home.”
Floyd is survived by his brothers, Rudolph Smith and H.L. Vick; and his children, Angel Ellis Khoury, Floyd Lisk, Todd Smith, Caitlin Smith Hanbury and Lindsey Smith.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Kenneth Smith Gayle.
The memorial service will be at Hunterdale Christian Church in Franklin, Virginia, on Monday, Jan. 4, at 10 a.m., with a reception to follow. The private burial will take place at Poplar Spring Cemetery.
