Mr. D’s restaurant to close [Updated]

CORRECTION: Mr. D’s will remain open through Dec. 31. The information about the closing on Dec. 20 came from the source. The restaurant is open today, Dec. 21 and Wednesday, Dec. 23. The business will close at noon on Thursday, Dec. 24; be closed on Christmas Day; open at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 26 for herrings and buffet; open at 8 a.m. on Dec. 27-28, 30-31; the restaurant is regularly closed on Tuesdays.

FRANKLIN
Mr. D’s Southern Kitchen and Catering in Downtown Franklin will close after Sunday, Dec. 20.

Douglas Sumblin, owner, sent a message to The Tidewater News stating, “It has been our joy to provide the City of Franklin and surrounding areas with ‘Food like Grandma used to cook,’ for three years now, and now it is time to say farewell.

“We do wish to thank each and everyone for your patronage, loyalty and especially for friendships we have made over the years.”

The restaurant, located on a corner of Main Street and First Avenue, was first started by Sumblin in 2012 on Armory Drive.

Mr. D’s will be having a Grand Finale Christmas Buffet from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Turkey and all the trimmings will be served. He strongly suggested that reservations be made.

Limited restaurant equipment and furniture will be on sale Saturday, Dec. 26, through Thursday, Dec. 31.
